Thinking outside the box

This is tempeh in a totally new form.  Our heirloom tempeh is dehydrated and powdered, making it shelf-stable and ready for a variety of uses.

With a mild nutty flavor, tempeh powder is a perfect way to elevate a smoothie, boost your chia pudding, or amplify your banana bread.

Protein powder is great, but it’s not really a whole food.  Tempeh powder can be used like a protein powder, but it’s so much more than the typical highly-processed protein isolate powders available.

Banana Tempeh Smoothie

It’s not as crazy as it sounds.

In a blender, combine:

  • Frozen banana chunks
  • 2 heaping tbsp Tempeh Powder
  • 1.5 cups almond milk (or your milk of choice)

Blend until smooth, add a sprig of mint for garnish, and enjoy cold.

Tempeh Power is not water-soluable, so don’t expect it to disappear when blended.  Instead, it adds a satisfying thicker texture to the smoothie that’s not chalky or slimy.  The nutty flavor compliments the sweetness of the fruit.

It’s a smoothie – go wild!  Other fruits, chia seeds, bee pollen, nuts, honey, etc are all perfect for a tempeh smoothie.

Super Food Peanut Butter Cookies

Tempeh in cookies!  Who would have ever imagined?!  This recipe makes 8-10 delicious cookies.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 2 tbsp applesauce
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 cup Tempeh Powder
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/8 tsp salt

Instructions

Combine dry ingredients, then add the rest of the ingredients and stir to form a dough.  Roll into 8-10 cookie balls.  For softer cookies, refrigerate the dough for at least an hour.

Bake in a preheated oven at 350F for 8 minutes.  The cookies will look underdone but will hold together better than if they’re overbaked.  Let cool for at least 10 minutes before removing from cookie sheet.
